5-time BCMA winner Melanie Greggain recently released her debut solo single ‘Ready To Run’, following a number of festival appearances this year including slots at Country2Country and Buckle & Boots. What a debut it was too, with the track shooting straight to the top of the iTunes country singles chart within the first 24 hours of release.

Followers of the UK country music scene won’t need telling about Mel’s song writing prowess; we saw it in abundance with Luke & Mel material and her solo material looks like it’ll continue that trend. ‘Ready To Run’ tells the story of a girl desperately trying to break away from the turmoil of a past relationship, backed by very subtle, almost haunting instrumentation that emphasises the pain behind the song.

Production-wise, it’s very slick and Mel’s voice, carrying a lot of emotion, is given a platform to shine. The electric guitar is used to perfection in moderation and adds another layer to an already classy melody. For a debut release, Mel could have been forgiven for coming out with an explosive introductory track, but this is right up my street. Intricately crafted, easy-listening country music with a hearty, soulful feel.
